Genealogy

Many visitors return to Ireland to search for their ancestral roots. Valuable time can be saved by research prior to their arrival. the Ulster Historical Foundation ( a non profit making organisation) is there to assist both visiting and resident researches in their ancestral research projects.

Independent of the work and assistance provided by the Ulster Historical Foundation their are projects being undertaken by local groups throughout Ulster to make local records available, to restore headstones in graveyards and to further research in genealogy.

Ulster's Heritage

Nowhere in the British Isles, or indeed the World, is a people's heritage more evident and on display as it is in Ulster. The heritage of the people of Ulster is visible from the Stone Age to the present.

For an overview of the cultural and archaeological heritage of the Province of Ulster one can visit one of the many Heritage Centres. Those who wish to have a first hand experience of Ulster's past  and emerging future, have a choice of Stone Age burial sites, well preserved early Christian Monastic settlements, fine examples of Cistercian Monasteries, Norman Castles and Tower Houses. Evidence of the Ulster Plantation by the English and Scots in the 15th century is all around, as are the remains of the early industrialisation. Guided tours of the City and greater Belfast will enable tourists to witness the evidence of the merging of two great cultures, those of the British and Irish.
